Getting Wisdom and Understanding

Scriptures tell us the most precious things we can get are wisdom and understanding, which will guide us and protect us.

Scriptures instruct us to get guidance from the Laws of God, from The Proverbs, and from our parents.

Our inborn intelligence gives us the wisdom to know our need in life for the wisdom we can get through contemplation on the understanding we obtain from experience and study.

Scriptures give us much guidance for life that is timeless. But Scriptures were written long ago in a very different world and we must give consideration to how they apply to our own unique life in this modern world.

We are told in Proverbs to spend as much as all we have to get understanding. But we are not told in Proverbs what kind of understanding, and where we can buy it.

If children are lucky, they have family and mentors who give them guidance for the world they live in. Later, modern understanding can be purchased in institutions of higher learning.

Wisdom is something one must want and then seek all one's life. Some wisdom can only be attained over, or after, many years.

The wisdom we attain can be further applied and expanded upon, so the breadth and depth of our wisdom can increase, the more years we live.

Wisdom can come as a slow revelation over many years, or in an instant.

However wisdom comes to you, it must be subjected to discernment. Some wisdom is eternal and some wisdom applies only to circumstances that change.

What seems wisdom can be deceptive, or be perverted by others to an evil use.

Nothing is more powerful than wisdom, therefore you must be careful how and with whom you share it.

Mark 4:33, Matthew 10:27, John 9:5, Proverbs 4:6-7, 18, Ecclesiastes 3
